Bill we now have out of the country ads(Canada) for boats for sale coming up on the site. Lets either remove the classifieds or relocate the other non-member ads. Perhaps you can make this a paysite like Boat diesel, it would probably help. I for one would pay the meager $25 per year. Other contributing members feel free to chime in either for or against. Removing the ads would suck by the way, we have many contributing members that like to use them.

Is there a way to restrict posting an ad to the "member for sale section" to an "XXX amount of posts" senior member???

That way boats like Sophia Rose, Kristin, Jeanne Maria, etc., can stay near the top.

Appreciate that Mousetrap... Perhaps we grandfather in members and going forward if you join just to post an ad you have to pay to do it...

Another idea is to pay a small fee to have your add stay on the top for a certain amount of time like noreast.com does. And you get more pictures with a paid add. Only thing I don't like about there system is the add does not get bumped up when another post about it comes in, so if you are a nonpayer your add just goes away in a day or two. There's a lot of interest in some adds pay or not so I think those should have the ability to be bumped up.

All good input, much appreciated. Must be some creative way we can make this work for everyone.

I like the XXX amount of posts let you put up adds. That prevents people from joining just to post. You could still let people post for friends as I see someimtes. Don't know how you guys have kept the idiots out but keep it up, although I did slip under the radar:eek:

Hey guys. I appreciate all the feedback regarding the classifieds section and I really like the fact that you guys are taking ownership to the site and want what is best for it.

Lets leave things like they are right now. I have made the mistake before of changing things around to fast and then it not working out. If things get really heated we will take a vote on it. Although I would love a
membership fee I think its not the way to go right now. Making a person post XXX amount of posts is a good idea and we can explore it like I said if it gets to that point.

I think we do not want to discourage new members from posting on here and want to welcome their downeast boats to the site to learn from them.

Be carefull of a 20 post restriction. I don't think you want people posting nonsense just to get 20 posts.

Stripers online has the most active classified section I've seen online. Their policy is you have to be an "active member" to list. (No boats on there, just tackle).

Classicseacraft charges $25 to list a boat, everything else is free.

Thehulltruth makes you buy a membership in order to sell a boat in their classifieds.

Just some competitive benchmarking.
