Cod fishing

I am looking to get into ground fishing in order to keep the boat fishing throught the winter. I am wondering if there is a certain licence that allows smaller quotas without having to have the computer on the boat to declare where your are fishing and have the GPS tracker. Any help would be appreciated. I fish the boat out of mass.

yeah I feel the same way, even if its just a way to get out on the boat over the winter so people around me dont have to listen to my Tuna fishing "plans."

Yes there is a permit. Look here:

Look at the bottom of page 5 of the instructions. I have HB, I, and K permits. Also you will need a Vessel Operator Permit. The Operator Permit is free from NMFS NE Region but costs $50.00 fron NMFS SE Region.

All this crap has changed so much... If you are looking to sell the cod look elsewhere is all I can say... years ago it took a handgear "B" permit to sell and were limited to 75lbs. Handgear was valued between 5-12K but could keep 300lbs. Doesnt seem like much but that 300lbs everyday, for the most part, not a DAS permit. that was a few years ago too, not exaclty sure where you are at now...

What was cod fishing like south of Block Island? was it there or not?

Well unless you can consistantly go out and load up on haddock doesnt seem like somthing that you could really make a profit on.

I ordered about 7 different jigs from him... only complaint was it was shipped like 3 or 4 days after the fact when he said it would be out the next day...

I only got one of each so not sure about how one compares to the next...

I literally haven't jigged for cod in about ten years, just on and off for tuna bait... I wanted to make sure I had some for the commercial permits and fishing them more actively now... Mike, let me get settled and get in contact with you...
