As I understand it a non long line permit commercial green stick fishing general cat can have 10 hooks on power retrieved mainline. What are guys using for a main line spool?

Non commercial need to use a outrigger clip set up and fight each fish on rod and reel correct?

As far as the retrieval device. It didnt even occur to me to use a bandit reel. I was thinking mini long line type spool set up on hydros.

TY very much FVdestiny!

As far as only fishing IGFA tournement thing

THis is quote of the NMFS green stick PDF

"Atlantic HMS Angling permitted (recreational) vessels are not authorized to use green-stick gear as defined above. HMS Angling permitted vessels may use handgear configured as a vertical outrigger with a fiberglass pole (such as the pole used with green-stick gear) and the line from a
rod and reel linked to the main line with an outrigger clip or other break-away attachment. When a fish strikes, the rod and reel line breaks away from the main line, leaving the fish attached only
to the rod and reel. Then, the fish is fought individually and landed using the rod and reel."

the only situation any boat would have fish lines from rod vs. bandit would be under IGFA tournament rules.. The bandit reel will normally be set up with 700-900 lb test..

I was asking about the 10 rigs perminantly attached to the mainline with a break away off the green stick to pull multiple fish in at once under power. 700-900 seems a bit light for that no?

Most down lines I have seen where 5, I think the "10" number is used to cover vessels with 2 sticks

Well 10 it the legal limit. Everything I read say 5-7 drops work best so yeah. There doesnt seem to be much info on fishing theese suckers at all. Im real interested though. Although im really not sold on using a bandit reel for it.

Anyone ever pick up multiple tuna on their line while using a bandit reel?

I have, with yellowfin and big eye its fine that it is the reason for fishing this way for the multiple hook ups with the bandit. Big Bluefins with multiples is another story, I'm sure the other guys on here will agree it gets crazy and most of the time something breaks.

Who is making a bandit that can hold multiple tuna? Most if not all of the ones Ive seen have not even been close to having enough nuts to do that. But thoose were being used in the gulf for grouper, jacks and stuff.

Anyone got a link to bandit reels designed for tuna?

Here is a shot I stole from TunaMojo's Facebook page, it shows his bandit on his old boat. Man I loved that RP.

you can only effectively fish as many drops as the angle allows..the higher the stick distance the more lines you can fish . mine is 4 feet above my rooftop .when fishing with the banditcombo/stick and 5 outrigger/flatline rigs you are limited to how many droppers you can fish..If i decide to just fish the stick I can run many more but most bites come on the baits closest to the boat and color and size of squid bait definetely matters depending upon what tuna is the target...there are many little intangibles that come into play when targeting yellowfin versus bluefin..Speed of boat , when turns are made on fish that you mark, color and size of bait etc..I hope this helps..I also found a more effective drag system material to slow those f-------- down..I don't believe you want to catch more than 3-4 yellowfin and definitely not more than 2 medium to large bluefin.. Lighter leader on droppers swing better 400Lb and perform better without have to hand jerk the mainline as 700-900 being stiffer doesnt react as good..

rgr that FV. Im aware of how picky yellowfin and bigeyes can be. I was assuming on needing to buy 2 dozen of each popular color lol.

Funny how U can have a 12/14 rod spread out of the hottest lures around and consistantly catch tuna on some little piece of junk off the corner on a whim. Aside from greenmachines assorted wtf trolling lures and shell squid. I must have 200 jap feathers in every color one could think of. Never got into the big spreader bars though.

What is your opinion on the Jap Fuku shell squid? Are they that much better than run of the mill shells?

I thought the green stick doesn't work well for bigeyes or is that just what the nc guys say?

My number one producing yellowfin setup is the stalker tt5 bar with a jet head... Damn near every first strike is on one of these and I think it's a great attractor. I fish two to three in my spread. My favorite single lure is a Melton cherry jet... I will say my worst postion is the center rigger stringer in thousands of lbs of yellowfin I don't think I've found anything that fits me right. I've gone by everyone's recs too...

Naked islander on the center way back gets it done quite a bit for us.

Shell squids when fished from stick will need to be weighted with egg sinkers to keep them from getting pushed away when fish blow up on bait and will get destroyed by the tunas...the simple moldcraft 9-12" rubbers in green ,red, natural, root beer will work fine and last much longer than shells. I make 10 sets of each color and also sets for calm water and rough water of.. In calm water my lines are a bit longer than rough water set ups as you really want the baits out of the water most of the time and touching very infrequently.. . I would try some of those jap feathers too..mix it up.. BTW jimmy shaw spreader bars using yamashita squids in pink or green are killer in the canyons..bigeyes and yellowfin can't resist..

Jason, nice photo !!!

That is the reel I got from the welder around the corner from Butch in Wanchese.
Butch sent me over to pick it up as we were putting together all the parts in the back of my truck !

I have had two fish (approx 400lbs each) on this thing...... it got messy real messy and I wound up parting the main line....

Next stop was 900lb main and 700lb downs never lost anything after that !!!
How well can you still fish inside with our normal gear while green sticking in the canyons?
