David J. Smith Novi

The current Commercial Fisheries News (December issue) has a classified, for sale for a 22' David J. Smith Novi. Smith builds traditional Novi's with plenty of tumblehome, a near plumb stem (not so much anymore) and a Cape Sable step in the shear. This particular boat has a west coast windshield and (and much as I dislike these in small boats) it works pretty well in Smith's designs.

Now that I think of it, I don't recall hearing of Smith's boats being mentioned in this forum. His website is: David J. Smith Boats - Boats

Good looking boats- similar to LeBlanc Boats from the photos. Specs look like you have your choice of wheelhouse configuration East Coast vs. West Coast.

We run 200 lobster traps off it near shore NH. It's very stout and very stable and, if I do say so myself, damn attractive.

Damn. I've had my eye on this boat for a while. I've been scrambling to get some money together to make an offer. This would be a perfect boat for me. Anyone comes cross something similar on the market, let me know. That is a good looking boat.....
