Built the anchor pulpit out of stainless ( very cheap stock .....lol ) made the block plates out of 11 guage SS and cut out patterns with a plasma cutter , bought 6 " sheaves for 5/8 wire and spaced them 3/16 " washers to allow more room for 5/16 " chain to slide easily within the block . Also used schedual 40 with 5/8" I.D. for spacers for opposite end of sheave.

interesting, is it going to hold up if you get hooked in the rocks ? what do you do with 500ft of rode ? I would suggest atleast another pully or piece of rounded cutting board to protect the lip in the last pic

Jersey - I've already made a decision to reconfigure the pulpit as it is to flexible ( trial and error ) and yes i was gonna get a thick block of starboard with ss trim to ride on top . Mike - I got the sheaves from Zoro Tool Co. they have many sizes . Dennis

how come you don't run your chain up to the tab on top off anchor and atach with a shackle then do the. 2 tie raps back shaft hole that way the anchor will never bend always comes out. Have not bent an anvhor since doing this. Make sure yo keep a pile of 10" tie raps on the boat. Good luck

you do need to buy a good tie rap like from a good electrical store. I did get some cheap tie raps from junk store. You could pull them by hand and brake them. You might have to expertment with some extra electrical tape on there to.

nice that's what I am talking about does that little piece of line break when buried in the rocks. I usually just use 2 good tie raps.

Unclefish,

On the south side of Long Island we do not have rocks. We have sand bottom and wrecks. Also we have man made reefs. Yes the little strings work well on wrecks and reef pieces.

Steve, thats what i was saying....alot of times your ground gear will be stuck....but its not the anchor...i have had the chain stuck and even layed the line on to another piece of structure...but untill the line parts you will be putting alot of pressure on your davit or what ever you use to haul....as you can see i bent this one down to one side...hung in a pc off 17 fathoms

DIY Tree

Here are 2 pics of my old little boat. She had a teak pulpit too. You would be better off making up a tree like this one for your boat. It was made up of a length of aluminum channel with and aluminum angle or "T" welded at the front. The pulleys were home made using trailer wheels. You might want to invest in better pulleys, since you have the pot hauler, they need
to work correctly and be wide enough for the stock of the anchor to go in and out. You may want to add another bar similar to the 3rd pic (another old boat of mine). This bar serves to hold the anchors ar the correct angle
so they can self launch. Mke the pulplt extend out enough so the anchors dont smash into your hull when you are retreiving.
Good luck.

Hey Jersey, That was my old boat... Mark (Greaser) bought it from me. I sure did pour a ton of work into that boat, and yeah the anchoring set up is bad ass for sure :) It was time to go bigger so I sold it as I had the new 31 RP boat on order..... Still see Mark around here and there. I gifted the little Shammy to my son, he trailered it to the west coast.
