my sea craft,it's gettin' a little "down east style"...adding a pilot house around the console...

pulled the console stripped it and made up a jig - actually, made 3 jigs, settled on this one - i canted the forward section outwards - reduces glare - looks sharp too...made this jig up from cheap shit underlayment,"pinned" together - this provides the template for the house - i have a hard top mold...
originally,i was gonna make the house out of divinycell, changed my line of thought - using penske board - great product,i've used this on quite a few jobs for clients

this undelayment,it's only used for a template - it's throw away stuff...

looks great...

gonna start fabricating this,in between jobs - got a few big ones in the shop allready...

Looks great- I like how you recycled the console. Are you going to put some camber in the roof?

no new progress...been tied up on other jobs...

the console - it requires a few modifications - the console's made from a mold - it has a "negative draft",meaning,it's larger at the bottom, than the top - this needs to be corrected - this will avoid the house sides tapering in.the console's currently being modified.this will allow the house sides to be laminated to the console - avoiding any stress cracking and assuring a solid reliable bond between the 2 - end result is a one piece structure.the flange on the bottom of the console,it's removed,a new mounting flange will be fabricated,to securley mount the house to the deck - allowing it to be removed,if need be - the original deck,it allows the fuel system to be repalced without cutting the deck - this will be retained in the new deck construction...

buzzzzzzzzzzzzz....

managed to get some work done on my own rig - between client's rigs...

console's been modified - it's now the same width top to bottom - this eliminates the house sides tapering, when laminated to the console - this is a little different than just bolting some plywood to the console and calling it a day...whole lot of core matt !
the console's been fully recored, using a penske board core.the holes were glassed over and rough faired.the original mounting flange for the console has been removed,2 pieces of 1/2" penske board have been laminated to the console - and another has been laminated onto those - this forms the base for the mouting flange - when the epoxy mix kicks, these will be matted over...at that point in time, the house sides are ready to be laminated to the console.this will be a one piece structure - very strong and light in weight.the penske board is 40% lighter than plywood - it's a composite, that means it will not rot,or absorb water...everything has been laminated with a mix of west system epoxy and 403 adhesive additive...

we're gettin' there...

SeaCraft

I've always wanted to replace the T-Top/Hardtop setup on my 23 SC for a solid doghouse, trouble is, I have seen far too many doghouses that look like waterborne telephone booths. That's the thing, I don't have the skills to do it the way I would want it done and I don't trust anyone else could make up what I want, so I stick with what I have.

You are off to a great start Jawz. Defiantely need a nice crown on the top to avoid the phone booth effect.

Nice work, keep us posted!
