The results of the poll for the first annual Downeast Boat Rendezvous dates and location are in! Looks like Payne’s Dock on Block Island, September 7th – 9th (or any part thereof). Thanks to Pedlyr for helping to set this up! Also, thanks to everyone who voted and if your choice didn’t win, hopefully Block isn’t too far for you and you can still make it. Maybe next year we can try another location.

The cost is $3.00/foot per night. Payne’s isn’t asking for a deposit or reservation from individual boaters, but instead would like one person to provide a total count of boats along with their sizes. I’ll collect the names & boat sizes and provide them to Payne’s a month ahead. So, pencil in the date and ‘private message’ me if you are going to attend along with the name of your boat, the length and beam.

If you know other downeast owners who, for some reason are not forum members, spread the word – the more the better! Also, I know each of us could spend hours climbing in and around each other’s boats, but let’s throw around any other suggestions for activities, etc on this thread.

So, who’s goin?
Count me in!:D

The wife and I am looking forward to it. Payne's and BI is a great spot for something like this. I hope some of you guys from the Northard can find a way to make it.

There is a free public boat launching ramp in Pt Judith if anyone wants to trailer. Trip is an hour or less dock to dock in New Harbor (not Old Harbor). I have done it in my 20 ft Shamrock many times. I think parking is free but I want to double check.

The Narragansett Inn is at the head of Payne's Dock with a beautiful view. It is an old Inn, not a modern hotel but it is very handy. There are many other places to stay or eat. Things can get pricey but with a little planning, deals can be had. The Pt Judith ferry can bring cars or you can go Hi-Speed. There is also a Hi-Speed out of New London, Ct.

If anyone needs some more local info, let me know. Thanks Stinkpot!

When responding with a private message, please also include which nights you will need a slip, Friday, Saturday or both.

Thanks!

You're probably right; there are a few who are definites right now and I encourage those who plan to go to post that here, in addition to private messaging me. The P.M. method will help me compile the list for Payne's when the day comes. But if we also tell everyone on this thread, it'll help get the discussions going.

Regardless of how many have committed, I encourage anyone interested to just sign up. 'Cause if everyone felt that way, no one would be first...

I'm going to look into the possibility of putting something in Soundings and/or Points East as well.

So, who's going? I think you should post a list. It might encourage more people to go if there are a lot of members going.

Is docking in slips or just on a walk way style float? If on a float can we raft up like this?

Because everyone could chip in for the $3/ft for the vessel actually tied up. Fun times for everyone :)

I might be there at this point. It depends on when I move the boat to montauk. I hope it works out.

I like how you think; 50 cents a foot in this case, such a deal. Probably be charged $250 for a 200 amp shore power plug...

Hey, is that couch from Pomerleau's?

Okay everyone, only two months left to go! We've had an awesome season (weather-wise) so far. Let's finish it up right in September on Block! Check your calendars and make plans to attend the rendezvous. Tell everyone you're going via this thread and PM me as well.

If any of you read the calendar of events in either Points East or Soundings magzines, you may have seen this:
Sept. 7-9 First Annual Downeast Boat Owners Rendezvous
Bring your Downeast-style boat to the first annual Southern New England Downeast Boat Rendezvous to Payne's Dock on Block Island, R.I. Meet other Downeast-style boat owners, check out their boats, share stories, ideas, dreams for that next boat and show off your vessel. Whether youre boat is used for charter, pleasure, cruising, commercial or all of the above, it doesnt matter as long as you own a Downeast-style boat. This is a very casual, non-sponsored gathering.

Absolutely. No boat, no problem. I hope to get some ideas for my 'next' boat myself; I just happened to be bringing my boat along to maybe inspire you or someone else. Bring along your sketches...

Sorry, the berthing area will be taken, otherwise you coulda crashed on board for a night.

Hope to see you there.

There are plenty of places to stay on the Island. Ferries run out of Newport, Pt Judith and New London, Ct. or you can even fly New England Airlines.

The boat launching ramp in Pt Judith offers free parking IF YOU HAVE A TRAILER. Otherwise parking will be about 10/ day in a private lot. It's about a hour or so dock to dock in New Harbor on the West side where Payne's is. Ferry goes to Old Harbor and is about a 20 min walk.

well, the schedules changed again and i will be home for the get together, althought it would be an awful long ride down from midcoast maine at 13 knots. if i had a trailer i would dfinitely think about trucking her down for the weekend!!!

13 kts, about 200 nm should get you there in a mere 15 hours of cruising. Hell, make a vacation out of it! Or, maybe someone has a trailer you could borrow? Would love to see the boat.

I cruised from Winter Harbor, ME to Mystic, CT - took two weeks to do it and make a number of stops along the way and had a blast.

I would like to attend, but will give a definite in a few days if it is not too late. Went over last year in sept. & it was great. I would think a little striper fishing would be a good activity.
