I've got t 33' wooden Jonesporter, built by Vinal Beal in 1963. I just pulled the 455 Olds, and am replacing it with a 383 Merc. I want to keep the dry stack, but am interested in losing the keel cooler for performance reasons. I'm thinking about installing the closed cooling kit on the 383, pumping the cooling water back overboard instead of into the exhaust, and then running the exhaust up the stack. It would probably be easier to run wet exhaust at this point, but it would need to run under the side decks because there's no room under the working deck. Thoughts?
