These are sweet little boats. I have to say I like the older version better for some reason. I think the higher freeboard takes away from the shear line. I think you can put two of these inside a Michell Cove 20'.

I just did a search of MC 20 and found a new one with a Suzuki 140/trailer for close to $60K!!!! Is that right?? The base hull with wash boards looks to be close to $9k. This boat has the bracket and some electronics. With that kind of money can't you buy a nice used BHM 25' or General Marine 26'?

That is a crazy price. Another comparison could be that a base Regulator 23' cost 60k. I know its not "Downeast" but whether O'Hara likes it or not....that is the competition.

I love the soft chine Easterns - the 18 and 24 are the only ones as far as I know. Great inshore hull that can take a beating. Does the 18 ride wet? I've never been in one but my 24 certainly does. I have a lobster top and wipers to help out.

I dont think the eastern 18' s a dry boat. The spray rails help. It is just a beautiful skiff.

Carmen (the original owner or designer of Eastern) now makes Surfside boats with molded spray rails in his new boats : Home Page

He pushes them with a Merc 65 Boss (I believe) as his hull planes so easily.

some pictures of the surfside remind me of a privateer. The Lowell 18/ Norton 18 are tough to beat from a "look" perspective. There may not be a better looking 18'er.

There is a nice 21' outfitted with and Etec over at Dover Marine if you are in the area. It is worth stopping to look at as they have not shrink wrapped it yet.
