Eastern 22's actual draft

Can anyone with an Eastern 22 Lobster/fisherman tell me what the real draft is. Brochures say 18". I asked at the boat show & the Eastern rep. said 12-14", which sounds about right. Water at my dock is very skinny so I need a real number. Thanks, Roy

Thanks Riggin-Dude, We have been looking a C-Dory's, [22' & 25']for a cruising boat. Then saw the Eastern 248, above our budget, so the Eastern22 was a logical choice. We want to fish & cruise in style. The DE lobster boats just fit the bill. But our boat dock is shallow, so I was concerned about the draft. 14" could work, most of the time. Roy

OK, Drove 8+ hrs. round trip to look at this Eastern 22, '05, 90 hp Honda [ a little under powered]. It was a DOG, looked like it was used & abused. The draft was 17.5", right at the 18" stated. It was "only" $19,900, but LOOKED like ..it. I'm looking for a pleasure boat, NOT a beat commercial fishing boat. Broker said " it has appropriate wear for a '05. I said "RUFF"! Oh well it was 83* & bright & sunny, GOOD day for a ride. Roy PS Any 22-26 outboard DE boats within 1,000 mi of SW Fl.? Please advise.

Odd... The one i measured the draft from was 14" from bottom of the keel to just belowe the boot stripe. Was probably about 15' or so from the transom.

Maybe it was sinking?

FWIW my little downeaster only draws 8". I would think that a 22' Eastern would draw less than 18"...

This 22 definitly had 17.5" at the deepest part of the keel, leveled over to the water line on the bottom paint. At the transom it was only 14", light motor & no fuel & no stores on the boat. Mousetrap I need an 8" draft boat, the waters been blown out of my canal for 2 days now. Roy

Do you have any Seaway dealerships in FL? the 21 claims to draw 6".

Another option that comes to mind (not a downeaster though) that may be more plentiful in FL is a C-Dory. They have the smallest boat with a pilot house that I an aware of 16', and their 19 and 22' draws only 7".

Eastporter hit the nail on the head recommending the Retro Marine pilot house! roydawn I think you have commented on my boat in the past. The K-Model pilot house Retro offers is very close to mine. Don't know why I didn't think of it. If you want a little more, they offer extended tops too.

Thanks Guys, Yes we have a Seaway dealer, Wefings Marine up in the Fl. panhandle [8 hr. drive], they have ALL my favorites: Eastern, Seaway, & C-Dory. Planning a trip up there the 1st or 2nd week of Jan. The Eastern 248 is only arriving around New Years. Met Marc [from Wefings] at the St. Pete boat show, great guy & company. They had a Seaway 24 & an Eastern 248 there. We really want a 24' ish boat, with shallow draft. Only if their WASN'T a budget! Anyway spent 3 hrs. digging [dredging by shovel] in the canal today, water's blown out so took advantage of it. Also looking at Grady White 268, so many choices. Roy
