Skip fluorocarbon for a minute, just talking trolling lures here.

For years every time I need Leader material I go buy a 100 yard coil. I notice that locally I pay $23-26 and I see them online for $13-17. So lets say 250lb line. I see that I can get it online for $54 for a 5lb coil. Its LP Primeline. A 5lb coil has about 800 yards in it. Look at that money difference... I can't imagine the lines are that different from lets say Momoi Hi Catch or the High Sea's line.

I actually paid $41.00 for a 5lb coil of 450lb test, so have to imagine from my buyer the 250lb will be the same if I use him again...

Thoughts?

Shawn I have used the LP line for trolling rigs without problems. The price is right. I have a friend who spooled all his reels with their 200lbs

I haven't really studied it, but Momoi seems quite a bit harder and more resistant to chafing than the five pound LP skeins. I've got some 400 pound LP. Works great for outrigger halyards too! I like to buy 200 pound line(leader) on spools.

I think I'm going to give it a try, agree Momoi is much harder...

Momoi is good as it gets, but is pricey. A 1000 yd spool of momoi 100# line is about $140. A 5# skein of LP is about $70.

I use hollow core on all my reels, so I only use about 100 yards of mono as topshot per reel. Saves a lot each year since I never have to replace the braid (sometimes I peel some off and splice some new in, but it's not a lot).

I pick up a 25# spool a few years ago . I spooled 4 80w and 4 130s and maybe 80 lures and still got a lot left over. Too bad LP don't sell the 200# in25# spools any more . It cost about $220 a spool

I picked up a 25lb spool of 700/800 for $280 or 300. That 5lb (500lb) coil is just for danglers and some other little things :)

They said once, if you are going to be a bear, be a grizzly bear...

I'm not going down the pond to chase bluegills or tommycats (whatever those are)...

I figure the prior owner had a couple spools in the bilge, so I have a spare. I plan on travelling later and do not want to be home without it. Pricewise it can in under my budget...

As my good friend and sometimes mate says, I'd rather be looking at it, not for it.
