Seatrialed a deadrise boat not downeast but issue can easily apply here....

During the seatrial I noticed engine was ridiculously loud....He didnt have any insulation......The engine's box i probably 2-3 feet above deck as well.....Do things like Sowndown make that much of a difference? I need to reduce noise by 80%

closed cell foam is good for about 7-10db. But you can't just do the box, every hard surface around the motor. More effective is mass loaded vinyl. Very expensive for heat resistant, much better then Closed cell foam. The best is leaded engine blanket. 80% reduction in sound is not obtainable.

Whats the estimated cost in doing the lead? Its a John Deere 6068 to give you size....Does the material makeup of the box make a difference?

Engine blankets are pricey, but work well. Sound reflects off hard surfaces, if you were to make the box out of nidacore, that would help quite abit, but you still have sound reflecting all over the hull, stringers bulk heads. Also is it mechanical niose your talking about or exhaust noise ? does it have a dry stack ?
