Extending Hull Length

What are some of the benefits for extending the length of hulls. I saw an add on Uncle Henry's for a 41 Osmond Beal that was extended and wondered what is being benefited from this. Are the longer hulls getting more lift and therefor more economy. I know it's been said on here numerous times that the 46 Wesmac goes better than the 42. Would it be beneficial to smaller boats as well. Would I see much by making my 30 young bros into a 32? I know it's probably cost prohibitive, but I'm still curious about the idea of extending the length.

P.S. it's 0350 and I'm pretty bored at work!

Woundupmarine,A buddy of mine added 4 feet to his 34 Webbers Cove...The boat looks great and even gained a little speed ..if your gunna do it go 4 not 2

thats interesting, my boat would be a canoe!! 34x10! im guessing he added it all to the stern? how did the boat handle with that much running surface aft of the rudder and prop? i cant imagine it would be much different but who knows.

It was no difference in handling....because his Webbers has a long stainless shoe holding the rudder....and when it was 34 foot you could see the rudder...so now its just right

John, not a crazy idea at all but let me tell you this... Get off your ship and home soon!!! The longer you are out there the more crazy idea's you will have... I almost order'd a green stick for my boat this year for tuna after I got extended a few days, figuring I didnt expect the money, lol... Its amazing what keeps you up in the bunk on a ship...

I remember Onset Bay Marina was extending a bunch of Oceans at one time. Had a friend that had a 42 extended to 46 just in the cockpit, wasn't a downeaster, hell can't remember the name now...

Doesn't take much of a paddle to make a canoe move pretty well?? There might be something to this skinney boat theory ?? My bowpicker was 28x11 and they stretched some of the same hulls to 30x11, every one went better than the 28's with the same power but most of the 30's had bigger houses and were heavier and still picked up 3-4 knots at cruise speed..

HAHA i know shawn! all these idea come up because i have so much time to sit around and surf the web. I like the idea of having a few extra feet of boat, and would like the thought of picking up some speed. I really cant see it being feasible though. Maybe one day when i have all the time and money i could want and need a good winter project!!
