I am hopping to be able to start a new build on one of these two hulls within a year and I am torn up between which of these two hulls to go with. I am limited to slip restrictions and that is why 30 feet is the cut off or else I would go with the 33 flowers no questions asked. My thought on the South Shore is that I can probably trailer it if I desired to do so and not be at the mercy of the haulers when you have to pull out of the docks for impending storms. Feed back on these hulls would be Appreciated. I fish Nantucket Sound and the backside of Cape Cod.

I thought I heard of someone cutting a Flowers 33' down to 30', was that ever actually done? The entry on that hull is interesting, a hybrid of sorts. Would love to see how it handles a standard day on Nantucket Sound.

There are/were several 30' Southshores around the lower Cape, some used for harpooning. Maybe give Ron Menard at Cape Cod Marine in Dennis a call, I think he has some solid experience with this hull as both a builder and a fisherman. He, among others, would be able to give you a first hand account of how that hull might handle the Sound for what you are planning to use it for.

Ok so after a lot of thought and going back and forth I think I am going for it. The 33 flowers cut down to a thirty in a walk around design. Just throwing it out there one more time if anyone can chime in on other hulls in the 28 -30 ft range. I am pretty content on this hull but I figure I would ask again.

I think a walkaround pilothouse makes for a very user-friendly and safe boat, I'm building my Wesmac with a walkaround cabin. Have you looked into the new 30' Calvin Beal? It's a big 30'er and I'm sure will perform as good or better than any hull out there, and Stewart Workman builds a top-notch boat. I don't know much about the 33' Flowers hull, but I would be hesistant to chop 3' off a boat. I guess if Ken is comfy with doing it, then it should be fine. What kind of power are you thinking?

The Boat started off as a 30 footer and Kenny Stretched it to 33. He took the south shore 30 and modified it by building it down in the keel to get the engine under the deck, but then continues to a flat aft section. He also widened it so it has a 12ft beam. His son David Lobsters out of the 33.

If it's the same 30 flowers had 4 or 5 years back, then they cannot get the engine under the deck. They talked me into moving up to the 33 for that reason. I test rode someones flower 33 in a full walkaround up in New Jersey. While a very practicle design, I wasn't crazy about the astetics of it.

We had the same requirement when we were looking. Slips for 30+ foot boats get expensive in Annapolis.

We went with the RP 31 Hull. I couldn't find a 30 foot hull that i could get the engine under the deck, which was one of my main requirements.

Good luck.

Engine Box does not really bother me, I plan on making a seat out of it. I need more function than looks. I am kind of thinking of doing a different type of house with open sides and setting the boat up like a center console something like a true world marine set up.

Depending on how far aft you wanted your pilot house with the walk around cabin, the required elevation to see over the bow might be enough to omit the required traditional engine box as well.

Just a thought

Used the skill saw the last time I stubbed my toe on the box of my shamrock, before we built the RP. Didn't work out so well because for some reason my wife refused to sit on the flame arrestor when we went fishin.

Med Sun,

Do have any drawings or sketches of this 30 foot DE, hybrid walk-around center console cabin boat? Neat idea, just tring to picture the "look" ??
