I just picked up this unit from a friend who upgraded to all Simrad because of his sponsorship. I need to upgrade from the Raymarine junk that puts me a half mile off the piece before I mark it...... The question I have is is there any software upgrades from Furuno I should have done before I install it. The unit is 5 years old. Thanks.

1100 l = fishfinder? I have 1150 from Furuno. My opinion is yr friend went backwards going to Simrad. Simrad split thier company. Heavy duty equip stayed in europe under new name, Simrad in USA sold to guys who sell eagle, lowrance, etc. I know because I tried to get support from simrad and it cost me big $ to find out that they have no support. Anyway, I love my furuno 1150. regards Tommy:p

I agree. Your 1150 replaced the 1100, the 1150 is the high def.

I love my 1100 and think the difference in the 1150 is mainly the ability to network that the 292 cain't do. I would normally agree that furuno FF and radar can not be beat especially hardware wise but hard to dispute the science of CHIRP and the FMCW radar for close in resolution. Our DE boats never run from weather speedwise while offshore that the advantage of the longer range pulse radar has, so unless looking for birds, FMCW radar is really IMO better for my application. Holding off upgrading for now hoping Furuno comes out with chirp FF by spring since they have always owned the rep of the best FF but doubt if they will do FMCW radar. In the past Furuno rested on their success then played catch up which hurts $$$ wise because they do beat the others when they catch up. Other problem is they are all going MFD with propriety connection and networking systems and since after splitting, you only have a 6" screen, will cost a fortune to get 2 screens in order to get the big pic or even more to get two different brand single screens after getting all the connectors and module's needed. No one answer other than big $$$$$ they got us by the B???!!
