Checked the power supply. Almost 13 volts continuous..turns on for about 2 hours then turns itself off.

Replaced my batteries, checked ground. Replaced breaker. Has its own breaker.

Also.... Land masses were not showing on screen but the rings were there...sometimes it works n sometimes it doesn't...

Could it be the magnetron? Electronics guy resold erred the grey video cable

I just bought this from him...

Does it flash any letters on the screen?I have a older 1830 and it would shut itself off and would say IR on the screen.Turned out a bad motor in the dome, would work but heat up and shut itself off.I know the 1700 sereies were famous for the belts coming off,you still had the rings,no sweep.

The intermittent land mass returns don't exactly point to a failed magnetron. When a maggie goes, you notice a lack of target return definition, then lack of targets, then nothing. The power issue could be the PSU PCB, and the issue with the targets could be a modulator PCB going. All speculation based on previous units, your best bet, honestly, is to ship to Furuno in Camas WA for the fastest bench/repair/return along with having the manufacturer be able to go through everything at an actual reasonable price. Believe it or not, when there are multiple possibilities causing an issue on a scanner, it's cheaper to just pack up the gearbox and display and ship it to Furuno. They have a cheaper labor rate than we do, and have every part on-site so you don't have to wait. Obviously, some of the VERY old radars aren't supported due to lack of parts, but I had a 1510D that ended up needing an IF board, modulator, and a magnetron, and it got done for $650 and back within 2.5 weeks. If we had done it, it would have been over 1K, and I honestly didn't have any of my FCC guys or even myself to get to it fast enough for the guy, considering Blackfish season is in full swing. Just a suggestion.

Welcome aboard NYME!
It's Chris from Precision Marine.

MDI, I actually just sold a used 1942MkII to another one of the guys here on the forum. I do have a 6kW gearbox and scanner for the 1942MkII that will also work with any of the 10.4'' displays w/ Round Connectors. If you can find a display, that will do the trick. Also, any of the NavNet or Vx2 displays (10.4'' only) will accept that radar, as well as the RDP-152 that is used with the 1945/35 full color radars. Furuno RDP152 Radar Display

grey host, whats your area code....i have a 1761 that needs help

just happened to come across this, i have a 1761 as well thats working intermittantly, array spins fine all the time, sometimes it picks up good, sometimes theres nothing, sometimes it kind of works but picks up stuff week, and now when you zoom out over half a mile or a mile it just doesnt seem to have the nut to pick up anything, Did you have any luck having anyone work on it? i really like mine, but the guy here said to throw it out and buy a new one....about 5k that i really dont have to spend and i just cant stand to part with it cuz the unit is in mint condition and is a really nice radar, is this by chance what was goin on with yours?thanks!

Pretty much. It's an excellent picture. Some days u get 4 hours out if it. Others I get 10 minutes out if it. It turns itself off completely....

I took it off yesterday and I am bringing it to the guy I bought it from
