Looking for feedback/ experiences with anyone who has had a chevy inboard built in the US. I am looking for a 383 or 454 ,caberated , as little wires as possble, with FWC.

I have spend a good amount of time emailing a few guys in the US and have come up with the following.

1800runsnew.com - holliston ma- uses BluePrint engines/ also sold by Summit.. feedback is poor on these around the web.

DaddyOsmarine- florida
daddyosmarine.com |daddyosmarine.com - bad reviews once again- big seller on ebay

raytek marine- makes a custom 383, price is ok. no feedback
Raytek Marine & Bulletproof engines

marine remanufactured- sells a "turn key" 383. havent heard back from them yet- once again, shitty reviews
Marine Remanufactured Engines Inboard

so anyone have any insight? I want to go local so I can go door knocking if something goes wrong, 1800runsnew is local but have heard a few people pissed with them.

I dont want a fuel injected engine with a computer.

So I am pretty sure i know the answer im gonna get but im gonna ask anyways..I spoke with a mechanic the other day, he says that he sees engines with raw water cooling go for 10-15 years, he says if you change the mainfolds out every 7 years it should be good. any truth out there?

I had a pr. of raw water cooled Ford 351's in my 1977 28 Bertram.

Engines had 1200 hrs. on them 13 years old, ran perfect..., the 1977 Merc parts on them were "gettin old" in 2001 when I repowered.

Re-powered with Crusaders 275 Classic carbs.

Fords were still running when we pulled them out.

Have you checked out www.marshallsmarine.net? Not sure if that is what you are looking for. These guys are always on craigslist. I made an inquiry and they were very responsive. And prices look good. Something to be said for SBC and BBC gas engines - easy to work on, simple, parts everywhere, and easy to replace.

I did and yes the did get right back to me. I originally asked about a 460 long block as the carb and ex manifolds I have are only a couple years old but as I get more involved and invested In this I want the whole thing to be the way I want it. I want a chevy not a ford. From what i have read, the thing is that a lot of these guys are selling "marine" engines and they are not cammed correctly etc for marine application and wind up sucking water in.that's why I am reaching out to hopefully find someone local who knows his shit.

I had a boat with a 460 ford made under the Chrysler name . It was FWC all the way to exhaust manifolds. I bought an OMC King Cobra engine as a spare which was also a 460 but it was FWC only at the block, exhaust manifolds were Raw Water. For either one the exhaust manifolds were hard to find and expensive as hell. I never launched the boat and subsequent buyer burned out both engines unfortunately. The smart money when I got that boat if I were to keep it, short of a diesel repower at much higher cost, would have been to repower with a BBC. Good luck.

Now because people are cheap shitz where i live, option (cheap) is what a good friend in the business does, well because people are cheap. Get a jasper shortblock, and swap all the marinizing parts over.

a few guys i know here would pull their manifolds off every winter and soak them in diesel, seemed to make them last a lot longer.

The 5.7 GM Indmar in my Sisu had the original 1991 exhaust manifolds & risers until last year. I had to pull the engine to get them off but they appeared to be good after all these years. I sold them on CL after I put the new ones on. Mine was a saltwater boat until I shipped it to Michigan in 2010. Engine had 700 hours on it.

Also, the engine is fresh water cooled but the manifolds/risers are raw water cooled

i jsut put a set of aluminum manifolds on, my father-in-law has been running a set since '99, and he uses it, it is commercial. i figure if he can get that long out of them mine should last 6 months:confused:.

imo crusader makes the best quality of these motors, but they are expensive,

there is always this guy too
