Stacey up at General Marine, www.generalmarine.com ended up landing with the Northern Bay 36 mold. It was funny because in 2002 we tried to build a NB36 with John, then with the guy down here in Mass on the RI Border, that failed, ended up with a H&H40.

I'll let other people comment on it, but can search The Hull Truth for some good material and also including Noreast.com. I of course am very partial to them and just have a timing issue in my life right now to get rid of it.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask me.

Here is my link to The hull truth full classified.

A GM 26 might might actually feel like a 32 compared to a similarly sized Parker. They show much bigger than their stated size.

The 26 is a big little boat! Rides a great head and a good following sea. IMO a better boat then the 28 BHM.

I missed this post the other day, been away at training.

Best way to say it, from the time I pass under the bridge in New Bedford, the boat is on autopilot! I have had very little issue's even in a following sea with the autopilot on, that says volumes in a down east boat!

Yes, that was his name... We were on the new build list and then he ended up with a NB36 that someone was trying to get rid of. We'll it was one of the infamous hulls that had bad coring issue's, voids. That hull started out as a friends new boat, then he told John Hutchins to basically take it back, they built a new hull. I couldn't believe that a year or two later that same hull was being tried to be sold to us... Buyer beware no good how good the boat is... Wish we started with the Northern Bay 36 and kept with it, ended up with an H&H 40, which was just too big.

Infamous? Could you expand on this a bit? I'm very interested.

What ever happened to Barret? That was a major setback for the 36. The layup problems at DE composits were because John's wife was sick and he wasn't there every day watching the layup process. Barret was suposed to give John i think 1k a hull he layed up and John had a bunch of hulls for him to do but all the molds got locked up in the shop when Barret got evicted or what ever happened. He was a talented man when it came to finish work though.

Its amazing John made it through that and the extended period it took to get the 38 foot hull done. I believe he is doing pretty good now considering the market but I have not spoken to him in some time.

It was funny how some of those hulls made the rounds of different finishers. I spoke with a guy that was going to finish the hull for us, read him the numbers and told us to walk away. Barrett I believe had an addiction problem and I heard he succumbed to that. I saw a Duffy 26 he finished in Nantucket with a really large engine, tricked out like crazy.

I've spoken on and off with Stacey about the 36 up there. Would be interesting to returning to that in a few years if things work out.

I wish Stacey would update the website in regards to the 36. I also think pricing wouldn't be that bad of an idea, I do know he had it up there at one point. I will be taking a visit up to his shop this winter or spring to talk about a few things.

Awesome article!

I just spoke to him this week about adding some lifting rails to my boat, start to play with the engineering with that. Trying to figure out what my return will be, knowing that even a slightest increase in speed, or lower RPM is pure money these days. Hate to see that water slip by any boat!

Spencer Lincoln told me that if the boat (36NB) does not do 20 knots or better leave the rails off they just drag. My current NB has a 480 Volvo and my old NB had a 610 volvo. Its amazing looking at pictures how much more boat is out of the water with the bigger engine. Both have rails. Hard to tell in these pictures, the top boat is doing 24 knots the blue one 19.

Same NB36 or is the new one a 38? So what are you getting for speed?

I just always like to tweak things and find out if I can save anything here or there. I know placement is absolutely key for sure, why I'm trying to involve Stacey. I switched up to a DQX over my old Dynaquad blade and people jumped all over me because I only gain an average of .7kt but look at that over 250 hours a year and I needed a spare prop anyways.
