Hatteras is known for the weather that we sometimes have. Usually it is just some storm offshore causing the havoc, but often it is homegrown thunderstorms and local fronts like this one. I was down working on the boat and this came across the sound and was worthy of this photo...

It actually had no strong wind until it passed overhead and then it only blew about 20 to 25 for a short while, dropped surprisingly little rain and moved past up to the NE. It just had the really ominous appearance as it moved in and overtop and I was waiting for the water spouts to pop out but they never did.

I always have a lot of dock lines on the boat as just on the other side of those low trees in the pic is 28 miles of sound across to the mainland and when the wind comes calling, it really can blow.

Glad you liked the pic, in person it was even more impressive.
