Just figured I'd introduce myself, and my boat. I've got some plans for an overhaul for her but it may still be a little bit before I start. The boat was titled as a homemade boat. It seems that maybe it was bought as a unfinished hull and rigged at home. It seems similar to a 1980's 23' Seaway. Any other idea's?

Welcome aboard Mitch! That's a good boat for a project. I agree with you- looks like an early 23' Seaway (round bilge right?). Keep posting photos as you rebuild.

SLED 002.jpg round bilge.

Unfortunately the woodwork on top was poorly executed. Maybe I can salvage it and glass over it. It might be better to start over, though

Nice and welcome. Does it have a vin#? Alot of boats the first few letters of the vin are short for the builders name. For instance my boat is DEB****** Standing for down east boats*******. My BHM was BHM*****. Just a thought, nice boat.

Is the wood rotten or just needing varnish? If you need to replace you can use marine ply and glass over, or sand and fiberglass existing wood if you think the wood is in decent shape.

That is a salty looking rig, good luck with you project. I like it.

Thanks for the replies!

The VIN seems like an state assigned VIN on an aluminum tag . The boat was from CT and the first few letters are CTL or something like that...

There are a few soft spots in the wood topside, but it may be repairable enough to glass over.

I plan to pull up the deck at some point and re-route the controls, etc. They currently run out of the console OVER the deck and then up under the gunwale. And the deck... although it feels pretty solid, the matt feels like it has detached from the plywood in a couple spots. I'm assuming I'll uncover some more issues along the way.
I'm really itching to get started but I've got to get a little organized first. We just moved this summer, and I've still got to get the garage ready for action.
