Not little...zero. Its a public resource being compromised by individuals making a profit. Its an open waterway, so if they loose gear it should be just part of the business model.
it's not lost gear....you ran into gear. You are at fault.

You are just demonstrating what a complete asshole you are. You have no consideration for other people. Learn how to drive a boat. You don't belong on this site. You have a hair up your ass about lobster fisherman from the start.

I bent a prop this fall getting off one that wedged between the prop and the deadwood when backing off it. This one was submerged because the line was too short for the tide and it miraculously wrapped itself twice around the deadwood between the prop and rudder. The ghost gear I picked up was easily 30lbs of mixed leaded line suspended just below the surface with an ancient buoy. No way I could have avoided that one either. I'm not out there actively mowing over gear here....

I know personally of two (TWO) fatalities from people swimming on their props trying to save both their boat AND the gear they were wrapped up in. Mind you, they shouldn't have been down there, but had they not been wrapped up in gear they would still be alive today.

So no...I'm not saving anybody a few bucks to compromise my boat or my life. Sorry.
All BS… 30 pounds of leaded line? Suspended below the surface with an ancient bouy? Line to short for water depth but still enough slack to wrap around your deadwood?

Got a link to any news articles on the deaths?

Sounds like you should probably stick to the farm pond in your kayak

Guilty as charged. I've been skippering boats for 40 years so if I haven't learned how to drive a boat by now than I guess it is what it is.

I have a hair across my ass for anyone who compromises my safety, this is true.
40 years and have not learned how to avoid lobster gear. Temporary because your part of the anti lobsterman crowd? Your showing your true colors.

Wicked.
My father in law wrote a great blog about the whale issue on my site. It’s a great read.
This was the most important part of his post:

One person, whose role I understood to be that of a neutral party trying to help facilitate

dialogue among various stakeholders, commented that the government agencies and the

fishermen seem to be “talking past one another”. This was our most significant take-away from the meeting. It was happening right there before our eyes. My wife, who attended with me, commented about the reaction of the BOEM Chief of the Renewable Energy Programs office, during the comments by the fisherman. The Director had daggers coming from her eyes, aimed directly at the few fishermen who rose to speak.”

everyone is talking past each other. We have a tragedy of the commons coming and unless all parties communicate clearly and come up with mutual solutions - everyone loses.

Fitting name too. Prop wash. How ironic. I'm sure he is a good guy but let's help the lobsterman who have it tough enough by turning the wheel. Up in NH pots coming out of the harbors are as thick as thives and I have not hit one yet. A bit if effort goes a long way.
I’ve hit 2 in 20 years, bith in washing mashing conditions. it’s not hard to keep your eyes on the water in daytime.

Ya I got a little experience this summer, only did it a few days a week and am clueless when it comes to deciding where to set. I definitely dont agree with this, but iI dont think we are going to get anywhere fighting people with this much power and Money, and instead need to work together and compromise.
Kiteboy has made a point that is far to pervasive in all of society. We MUST SUBMIT. DO what your told. Trust the experts. Compromise is the only way.
We realize you don't like to eat shit shit so lets compromise..... We can put the shit filling in a donut. You like donuts....Right? Aren't you even willing to compromise?
