How do you get a Certification Plaque for a DIY Pointer < 20'?

How does one obtain a CG Plaque to allow a boatyard to install a new +/- 70 HP engine? Let's say you bought the "19' Pointer Plans from Wooden Boat and successfully construct the Pointer. The plans say it will take up to 75 hp. Doesn't it need a C of O to get registered and a plaque to get an engine rigged? I am likely going pick up a 19' fiberglass "project hull" in the next couple of years, however curious about a wood option.

Bern my first question is why not rig the outboard yourself? If you can do everything else putting a outboard on is a piece of cake.

Unless your planning to resale, in a business format, then none required. Say you build it, use it, then sell it later as a home built, no issues IMHO

As usual, comments have helpful. I'm getting David Stimson's book today. I couldn't start until August, so we'll have some time to mull it over. The shape of the Ocean Pointer is exquisite, I just need to figure out exactly where the +/- 700 hours are going to come from. Redoing a 19' Seaway would be easier; however, building a wood boat that will torture my children after I'm gone is definitely appealing.

Bern I am sure your aware of my project Tip Jar. I have found it best not to look at the overall time it will take to complete the task. Pick away at your own speed. Little bites here and there. Sometimes it’s easy, sometimes it sucks. Don’t be afraid to back burner the project for a while.
