Hey guys could use some help. Just lauched the boat, the diesel fired right up but with a noise. Electric clutch for the hydraulic pump is dragging un engaged. Noise goes away when engaged. Slight evidense of metal dust. I figure bearing in clutch assembly is bad. Anyway I need to investigate serial numbers on pump but I think it is a Greson pump and a Pitts clutch assembly. This system is for a Hydraulic anchor windless system. I have never had to service the Hydraulics before and could use a good source for parts. I am sure some of you deal with hydraulics on a regular basis. Any advice would be appreciated. May not get back to the computer until tomorrow. Thanks!

The easiest way is to get the name and Mod number of the pump and get the part from Rose Marine or have them repair. The cheaper DIY way is If you can find a name and # on the bearing or worse case remove then mic the outside OD and inside ID and then go online to a bearing supplier or auto parts shop. It’s an easy fix with an air impact to remove center nut, although sounds like your problem is the bearing, make sure it is the bearing by removing the belt and spinning to check it before taking it apart. If it old and high HR, it might be time to replace the bearing anyhow. I can get the bearings for my PENN 130’s for 6.00 compared to 25-30.00 from PENN parts.

Is this a inline clutch? If so,it sounds like the bearing inside the clutch. You need a press to take it apart. It presses apart kind of funny, you have to take a 1/2 pipe cap and put in the shaft hole and press it from there.May be best to take it somewhere ,I ruined the first one I tried to do.

I am not a fan of the ST's so I have the singles that might have a diff bearing. I got mine from Action Bearings and also Emerson bearings just remove and mic it and they can match one up.

Thanks for the responses. I will muddle my way thru as usual and learn something in the process. Haven't taken it apart yet waiting for the weekend. I have to remind myself I do this for fun. Sometimes more than one problem at a time can be taxing. This is my way of life and I'm sure most of yours to. I wouldn't have it any other way even with minor setbacks. Happy spring fishing to all.

Only replace the ones that feel like dirt in them after cleaning and at the speed of reels you can put any marginal sounding ones on the cranking side of the reel and keep the best ones on the spool. Still got to pack the new bearings before install.
