Anyone here know these boats? Like a couple others here I'm thinking of a downeast boat somewhere in the future and this one's intriguing. I like the interior room, flybridge and nice sized cockpit for fishing. Wondered about the construction, sea keeping and what kind of economy you get with the typical power?

Thanks, Bill

theres a few around the island here, older hulls, guys fish`em pretty hard. couple with 420 yanmars in them, cruise is about 20 kts. seems like we all burn about the same amount of fuel on same type of trips.. canyons, or east of the island tuna fishing..
i do prefer the all glass hulls over the cored ones though.

Bruno made a pile of boats. The eariler ones were probably built better than towards the end.Not cored would be better.Weaknesses are stainless skeg that hasnt been replaced and they tended to be thin in the bottom of the keel. Some of the cored ones were only cored from the bildges up.40 + year cored boat you could imagine.Alot of Brunos still around here ,cored and not, still going strong. They are a good hull design, good sea boat and push fairly easy, but not really designed to go fast. When they were designed the average power was 120 hp for the 35 and 210 for the 42.

MDI is right, there is much info to be had in previous posts about Brunos. One thing to keep in mind though with the possible purchase of any used boat is the effect that age has had on all of its systems. Many of those systems will need upgrading or outright replacement - electronics; machinery; battery(ies); tankage; blisters; wet or separated core; the possibilities are endless. Find a top surveyor with core appraisal experience - money well and wisely spent, IMO.

Agree with the survey but are all Bruno's cored? I didn't see that info anywhere else.

Also, is the Nauset 28 made from a Bruno mold?

Bill N, not all bruno's were cored....also if you see a boat listed as a Five Islands...that was the company who was building them for a while...probabley these boats have less problems .... they had quality control

Brunos

I believe Brunos after 1980 were all solid glass hull construction. They are very fine sea boats with nice creature comforts plus the F/B & lower station 35 makes for a very nice offshore boat & charter.
We repowered one a few years back with a 440 Yanmar & a 1:77 gear The boat cruised at 20 knots @ 3000 RPMs. Brunos are hard to repower in that you are very limited in propeller size. A 20 diameter is the maximum you can spin.
Many of them have developed soft spots in there decks which is a fairly easy repair.
Some of the early ones had steel fuel tanks below under the cockpit sole, I would stay away from any with that combo.
A second repower was also done in Freeport with a Cummins 380 HP. The yard installed a drop shoe rudder and re-shafted the boat at a different angle and much lower in the keel. This allowed for a 24 propeller & a 2:0. This boat also did 20 Knots.

Thanks for the info. I saw one on Yachtworld with a 440 Yanmar. Might be the same one?
