Fishermen have many names for spots that are not marked on any nautical chart, at least not when the chart is bought. Often, the locations have names related to structure below. One such spot whose location I do have, but never got a good spelling or pronunciation for, has a name that goes something like “Cherms and Hudders”.
Is there anyone that has a good understanding of the name, that is, how it is spelled, and better yet, have an explanation for this unusual name?
The spot is located at:
42 degrees 52 minutes North Latitude//70 degrees 33 minutes West Longitude; or, 11 miles East of Hampton (NH) Harbor; or, 6 ½-miles at SSE of the Isles of Shoals; or, to use a couple of fishermen’s names, between the “Southwest Hump” and the “Outside Flag”.
