I'm thinking about installing a leaning post on my boat. Anyone have one? Pros/cons? I'm standing all the time but would like to put a leaning post that has an option to sit on top (padded front and top).

Would it be in the cockpit? My brother and I have a center console and usually sit on the gunnel, sort of straddling it. We have a bench console seat and don't ever fish from there.

some people love them. I had one on my boat for a year, and wasn't thrilled with it. The next year I went to swivel rod holders (with good backing plates) and never looked back. my order of preference for giants is, swivel rod holders, chair, then the stand.

Just my opinion but I think the style of the LP goes more towards how you are going to use it. On the 26 we have a maritime skiff house and leaning post. The reason we opted for their post was it has a large padded seat and back rest that actually allows you to sit down for long rides vs leaning. If you are just going to be using it for short rides or cruising around you could go with a style that allows you to lean more even with a backrest and will take up less room. I have the standard style on my small CC and its not very comfortable for 2 people for extended trips.

Thanks for your input guys. I think the seat with leaning post combo is the way I'll go but probably looking for used. I looked at prices on eBay and they want $500-$1,000 for this type. Maybe I can get a decent one on Craigslist for less.

If we could figure out who makes that swing back seat on that 23 build you could build a base that could incorporate some storage with it. I really would like to do a similar thing on my current project. Just need to know who makes it.

I love that seat. I just checked Todd Industries online and couldn't find it.
