Wanted to get some opinions on installing led underwater lights. Going on a downeast HH 32 ft beam 11.6 just curious are two lights enough? Any comments greatly appreciated. Use the boat strictly offshore not for show and tell!

We’ve got a pair of Lumitechs on a similar sized boat - they work well.

Two should be fine. As long as they are quality high output ones.

I had 4 Seablaze X2 installed this week. I had 4 Seablaze X on the last boat and they were great. Bright as hell but it never feels like enough light when offshore.

I just put 3 - Lumishore THX 203 lights in this week .. 5,000 lumens each and a 110 degree beam. Thru hull version with a threaded tailpiece. They were pricey, but hit a sale on them for about $675 each and based on previous recommendations on this forum and from other boaters that I know regarding their longevity and no one ever needing to replace them for burning out. Guys that I know that have the $300 Lumitecs all seem to have to replace them every 2, 3 or no more than 4 years at the most.

Lumishore's SMX version does not have a tailpiece, but screws to the transom and are 90 degree beam and another good option.

Look at Ocean LED if you really want to light up the water and don't mind spending money. A pair will be 5k but they will really brighten up the water at night in the canyons.

Why are underwater lights installed on the transom instead of the bottom of the hull? Would the lights be more effective if they were pointed down? I know nothing about under water lights or catching bait offshore, so just curious.

I have both. My Aqua Lights are the 600AL and designed to look down thru the botom of the hull. No need to recess. No screws, they are sandwiched with a flange between the hull. You turn them on and with in minutes you attract bait. Does not matter if your in the harbor or in the canyons. In a half hour you have a complete aquarium under your boat. The stern transom lights are Ocean LED. A 12 foot beam needs only two. They are quite powerful. They will light up the water behind the boat and even dirty water out to 60 feet. In clean water like canyon water they light up out to almost 100 feet. Swords often at night will swim just under the surface. It's a great light to get a good look at them when they are free swimming behind your transom. Very helpful for fighting fish at night as well. In George's bank we often watch massive schools of cod fish carving through herring balls right under the stern. In the canyons it could be anything from giant manta rays to yf tuna carving through rafts of squid. The biggest problem i have with them is guys will stay up at night sitting at the transom watching the show instead of sleeping when it's their turn to sleep.

Not sure if you can see this video without having an account on instagram but it is a bunch of bait jumping the in the lights. 2 of them in the stern. That yellow color that is playing in the video gets the bait the most active imo.

I added a few more pics of them on to that link. Just click on the right half of your screen to advance and left to go back.
