I’m reading up on under water lights.
I’m seeing Lumitec lights for short ($3-$500).
What makes one worth $2500-$3000 in comparison, lumens ? Quality of the light ???
For anyone that has them through the bottom of the hull facing down, is there any water flow or trim tab effect from the water traveling across ?
What’s preferred for light color ?
I’ve got my transom wide open at the moment.
Now would be the time to install a set. Either straight back or down through the bottom of the hull.
Thanks in advance.
Pricing has to do with lumens and expected longevity. When I bought mine, I had two electronics installers say pay me now or pay me later referencing time to replacement of course dependent upon the amount of use. Both said go Lumishore or Ocean and buy from them or buy myself and they'd still do the install. I went with 3 - Lumishore THX 803's, 500's at 5,000 lumens each and a 110 degree beam. Their SMX series is fine for transom mounting (screws and 5200).
As far as trim tab or thru hull effect with lights mounted on the bottom, it's no different than any other mounted thru hull.
5200 and screws are fine for the transom, but for the bottom of the hull you'll want a thru hull model just like everything else on your bottom .. that's for just in case you hit or bump anything, as the screws and 5200 just may not keep the light secure.
I had friends with blue lights and they have no issue attracting bait and for striper fishing it's mayem in the lights, so I went blue.
I say, do it while you've got easy access.
