It is similar to a mineral oil, very light and hardly sheens. It has been leaking for a while and the Coast Guard, NY Power are involved. The cable is burried deep in the sea bed and clean up companies have been hired to boom off environmental sensitive areas. This is not an easy fix as the cable is 600 meggawatt, buried deep and weighs 56 LBS a foot. I am sure the splicing is not like three stranded nylon.

Yes, dielectric fluid under high pressure. Why don't they call it what it really is? There are dozens of "dielectric fluids" in existance. It could be grease, oil, silicone, or who the hell knows what. A simple 3 letter word like "oil" would really get everyones attention. A fancy term such as "dielectric fluid" just gets a quick glance.

Dont think the lobstering in the sound could get any worse... close to me too. Sucks. Seems like there is something like this every 5 years or so in the sound.

Everyone I know that was a lobsterman either left or sold their boats. A few guys are hitting the conch pretty hard but that I think will dry up in a few years as well.
