have had two years of trouble with pump getting airbound. will be comming out of water for couple of days so would like to get input on BEST instal for new through hull feed. have washdown pump now that has a tee off it for bait well and I do believe that is where airbound issue is coming from,So all new thru hull set up comming.

thanks, Tommy

One of these types of pump.
Some you ask like Rule, some like Johnson, some like other brands, pick your poison. I've been getting 5-6 years on average out of a Rule.
This 1600 gal pump is not crazy draw on your 12v circuit (my 17A Rule draws 20-25 amps  )
I am using the 17A for my deck hose only and the 1600 for the livewell.

Splitting off thru hulls for multiple pumps is great for 1 less hole in the boat but you need to put shut off valves to all so you don't suck air.
If you drill for a nedwthru hull for the livewell only, obviously bronze, a seacock inside and a scoop down below.
If you run say Boston out to the east with the scoop & most open vein pumps you can shut the pump off and the scoop will pull the water in while steaming.
A typical washdown pump the pump needs top be running for water to pass through.
Also. Water in at bottom of your livewell tank and overflows near top keeps constant new water both keeping water temp down and fish scales, blood & other crap in the water will go out the overflows.

most pumps are fitted for 3/4'' ips thread.....was thinking 1" through hull which can be reduced once installed...thoughts? (don't want to be too small, in case we need 1" supply )

On the other coast, we live and die on good quality live bait. The Rule brand, is a good choice for the pump. Make sure the hose run is always up hill, with no low points. We like to have separate thru hulls for the pumps and redundant pumps that are plumbed together with isolation valves. This allows you to switch to a different pump if the primary fails. How many gallons is the bait tank and what kind and size is the bait? We like a 7-8 minute fill time. Can use a valve on discharge side to regulate flow rate. Small bait gets less water than larger bait.

You can always use a sea chest. It's below water line and uses bilge pumps that are always submerge and run cooler.
