I am looking at a 2005 28ft t jason and was wondering if there is anything I should be aware of when checking out the boat. I don't have much knowledge with this boat. I am not too concerned with the motor , trans , etc but mostly with the hull, etc. I will have a surveyor check it out too. It will be used for fishing and diving, recreationally only.
I have a 1972 30 ft silverton now that stays in the water all year for up to 3 years at a time. I stipped the bottom and applied several coats of barrier coat about 15 years ago and have not had any problems ( I was wondering if I had to do the same to the tjason to stop blistering, etc.). If anyone is interested in the Silverton it may soon be for sale. 1972 30 ft. 454 Mercruiser motor, tons of extra parts, flybridge removed , interior stripped out and redone just for fishing and diving and boat. Two depth finders, 2 gps, vhf, tons of other stuff. .Boat is currently being used. $5900 with out dive ladder.

MackE rel,i did some finish work on a 28 my friend bought in 2007...hull and top was very nice...it had a 200 yanmar in it and was a little slow....but i think it could have used the 315 yanmar..but the boat itself is a Calvin Beal design...and is a good riding boat

Thanks. I was wondering if there is any blister problems ? I was planning on leaving it in the water all year for a few years at a time like my other boat. I understand about being a little on the slow side but I am getting used to it with fuel prices. You would not know the cruise speed and rpm?

I have a 2007 28' Jason. No issues with blistering, though I am in the N/E and in the water for 7 months. The boat is great;no complaints.I did have to "clean up" some stuff when I got the boat.Wiring, hose and cable routing was a bit sloppy. All in all, very happy!
That being said,I have considered moving up.So... any interest in the boat, let me know;We can talk details!

Thanks for the replys

Thanks for the replys. So far I have gone to look at the boat and sea trial it. I am waiting for the survey but the preliminary reply from the surveyor looks good. I was wondering about blistering since I normally leave the boat in and use it all year for up to 3 years without pulling it. If I end up with it (and it looks like I will)I am planning on getting the hull blasted and then applying a sealer before a ablative bottom paint. Thanks to whoever posted the boat on this site as that is how I found out about it. Its the one from Fla on craigs list. Pretty basic boat other than the windless, fw/sw washdown and live well = not a lot to break or fix- just the way I like it.
I don't want to make anyone feel bad for pulling their boat for the winter but last week we had tog up to 19lbs and this week a bunch of nice ling. This mild winter so far this year is great. Last year I think we got out twice in the winter so its not always good.

Looks like the deal is off. The seller wanted me to "wire" $10,000 to his bank account without receiving any documentation, etc as a down payment. I told him I thought that I was not comfortable with doing a wire transfer for that much with no documentation. He said I have to trust him. I don't and now I will be looking at other boats. I did speak to the bank manager and he said if I do wire the money, consider it gone. Unfortunately I did spend a little over $1000 to fly down to fla, rent a car and have a survey done but I feel like I saved a lot more by not going any further.
Coddock and Muscie if you would like to send me some information and pictures of your boats I would appreciate it.

Mack, the Jason you looked at in Florida, was that Bill Thompson's boat? With the 200 Yanmar? Just wondering, I spoke with him about it that's why I ask.

Thats the one. I flew down took a look and liked it. I then had a surveyor look at it. The survey looked good but before i even got the results Bill wanted a $10,000 deposit. I was ready to go through with the deal but he wanted it via a wire tranfer to an account down there. I talked to my bank manager and he said you might as well burn the money as send it down there. I offered to hire a agent down there to handle the transaction but Bill only wanted it wired . I told him I was still interested but not willing to send $10,000 with no guarantee I would get the boat. He told me I had to have some trust! I did not trust him and I guess that deal is done. By the way the email address was not his , the house where the boat is located is not where he lives, he will not give out this home address, his only contact is his cell phone and his email account [email protected] ( a throw away account) which he runs off his cell phone and the list goes on. I called a banker I know that used to deal with bank prepossessions and sales and he told me it was a scam and once they send the money the boat will never be found. The only good thing I have to say is that he did not get any of my money. Hopefully he does not get anyone to do a wire transfer of funds and take off with their money.
When you contacted him what did he have to say?

Boat Make
T JASON 35
I had the 28 with a 240 Yanmar, loved the boat 17-knots cruise at 2800 approx 4 gph, but the boat just was not large enough for the big water off Montauk, especially with the low gunnels. I have a T Jason 35 now and am very hppy with it. The 28 I built from a kit and the 35 was finished by Terry himslf.

I called the number on the Craigslist ad, he called back a day later. Said he had the boat built in 06 and he had to move, thus the sale. When he told me it was a 12 kt boat I told him I could handle slow but not 12. You met him face to face at the boat???
