Mac Pettegrow and Steve Wessel = WESMAC

MAC is a very knowledgeable designer and builder you hear little about today. His philosophy was to increase speed and range by reducing weight years before high HP to weight ratio diesels were available. A high power to weight engine then was a 6v-53 turbo.

He built a 36 DE sportfishng boat with fly bridge and a 6V -53 (300 HP) that would do 30 knots using duracore strips edge glued with epoxy and covered with fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin.

Picture is of a 30 ft boat from his website. I called him years ago to ask about DE designs and handling characteristics. He was a real gentlemen and very passionate about design and building

I had never heard how the Wesmac name came about. I figured the Wes came from Wessel, but was not aware of the Mac. If money was no object, a 46' Wesmac with 1,000-1,200 hp would be a nice boat to cruise around in. :)

Recently purchased 30 ft. pettegrow from Macs son Al, who owns the business now. I have known them for a long time and do the nicest work I have seen. Great people.
