To start off, I want to say that I love the idea of this forum. Other forums have topics like "show us your downeast boat" and you always get a Parker with a cabin or a Steiger Craft with a cabin. I noticed the forum leader lists privateer (nc builder) and some other non downeast boats. Will this site keep true to Downeast/Lobster and perhaps Novi style boats? Where is the cut off? Sabre and Back Cove are made in Maine and are traditional in style but are not Downeast lobster boats. Is a Mackenzie Cuttyhunk in the spirit of what this site is about? I don't want to sound uptight, just a thought.

Jojo.. couldnt have asked for a better review..this is what we need for a discussion..I listed all the boat companies that I could think of on a piece of paper when I was building this site and boats like privateer were added because of their name and popularity around these waters..bottom line is that yes privateer, parker etc DOES belong on this forum because in new england they are used for commercial fishing and known for handling the chop but they belong in a seperate category as I have done.. A definite no would be a Boston whaler

So I am asking all the members.. lets build a list of the names that belong in each category and I will change the category according to the polls..simply copy and paste your list here or reply with what boats should be added or deleted.

Does Harris qualify for list? Same hull with one top can look like a 37 ft Merritt and look like lobster boat with different top.

i agree with jojobee a downeast is maine lobster boat. ive had a lot of boats over 40 years, and when i wanted a downeast i found a 1971 34 webber cove a true downeast boat . just because someone builds a boat with a "wheelhouse" does not make it a downeast boat.
