Lets get Old Mud to sneak in and pull the cord to let her slide down the flume and save us some money.
No more pullin the cord or dropping the lever. A dozen or more years ago they ordered a floating dry dock (from China), filled In some acres On the Kennebec and called it the LLTF (.
Land Level Transfer
Facility).
Now the boats are built on level ground and transferred into the dry dock (by rails) and floated out into the river where the dry dock is flooded and the ship float off.
The tradition and excitement of the ships sliding down the ways is forever lost at Bath as in many other Commercial shipbuilders. It's all about the money, Not the Tradition. The word I heard is "you can't feed your family and pay your taxes with tradition" .
Such a shame some folks just don't get it. Perhaps "the rules" are made by much younger folks these days !!. I for one would give up most of what I own to help these Traditions continue !!.
Sorry for the RANT . I'm going to go haul a boat.
