What is the history behind these boats? Rolly, head sea steaming, following sea, heavy? Cant find much about them! can anybody help men find out more about them. Seems to be a bunch for sale.

Nauset builds a great boat. Well thought
out downeast layout with good quality.
Most boats have some level of custom build
on their downeast hulls. Great hull in a head sea. Very
dry due to well placed spray rails. Not
too much roll even with a round bottom. Some keel
walk at higher speeds but not unlike any
other DE hull. Overall a great boat.

That's good going to look at the one on craigslist. Hopefully it will work out. like how they look.

What does $32,000 get you in a used downeast boat. Looked at the nauset and did not fall in love! Wooden skeg! everything else solid glass! crack in it. just to much stuff to work on. I"m not scared of doing it, but I thought I might get a nice average down east boat for that price! 26' to 28'.

The current 28 is built on the Harris Cuttyhunk
mold. The folks at Nauset are also great to
deal with.

Its not the one you are thinking of. He had a small tower on it and pretty sure it didn't even hit the water last year. In 4' on the ass you would dip your elbow in the water if it was hanging out the window heading down sea. I have a 28' bhm which is no treat down sea but there is no comparison in the boats. What was surprising it was pretty stable drifting and on the hook.

I have a 27.5 Nauset bass boat.

I bought the boat after one too many near death experiences in a center console fishing east of the bank in the fall. I'm very happy with my purchase. I was able to get into a downeast boat for relatively short money. I won't be in this forever. I need rear controls and will be jumping up to a 35 Duffy as my next boat.

Pros
Excellent head sea boat. We bought it with the majority of our afternoon runs coming home into a SW wind into Green Harbor. It's a tank and has gotten us home in some scary situations.
Fishy fishy hull... trolls tuna like a mofo.

Cons:

Scary as a bastard in a following sea.
Cannot drift fish it in anything bigger than 3-4', it has a violent side to side roll.
We have a single inboard gas engine and 12 knot cruise drives me nuts. I want to run 17-19.

Thanks for the honest pro/con report. It is always helpful hearing first hand experience. I wonder why the following sea is so bad on this hull.

Really like the lines of this 28. How do they handle over all? Compared to other 28 footers. Similar following sea issues as 27 footer?

I've heard the 28s are much better in a following sea.
Been looking at one, they get allot out of the 28, engine under deck, nicely finished cabin and to me the cabin just looks good with the window arrangement etc.
