Hi guys! I posted this in another part of the site but it might be in the wrong place so I am going to put it here too.

I gave up my 35 foot Betram about 9-10 years ago but I am really considering getting another boat now. I have looked at Betram's, Black Fins and DE's. I am leaning towards the DE but want to stay in the 29-31 foot rang. I problem I am having is I can't find a whole lot of info. so i figured what better place to ask than here.

Basically I would like know how these boats handle with and without the fly bridge as well as the overall fuel efficiency for both set ups. I would probably do a fly bridge. I would also love to see some of pictures you guys might have for the different lay outs for the cabin and berth or what you might have done to customize. This is a big investment and I want to make sure I get as much info as possible.

Thanks very much for your help!

I have a 1978 31' JC. It is a great boat, With a 200 HP Perkins it crusies at 12-13 Kts burning only 3.4gph. As far as safty is concerned the boat can handle just about any seas that you can throw at it. The cabin style in my boat has a large V-birth with a small Dinet and bathroom. If you look around you can find them on the market for very reasonable prices. GL on your search.

Thanks guys! The info is very helpful. I would love to see some interior pictures if anyone has them. There are a lot of great pictures of the DE's exterior and on the water, but very few of the interiors. Couldn't even find decent ones on their site.

My budget is flexible to a degree. Really depends on the boat's size, age and condition. I would like to get into a boat that's not much older than say a mid 80's build and am leaning towards the 31 JC.

Thanks again!

I own an Eastern 31 and no doubt Larry's boat is the nicest layed out Eastern on the market. I have known him for years and he is always helping people out with mechanical questions. He is a walth of knowledge and his boat is meticulously maintained.

Very sweet! Thanks guys for your help! Are all the 31's pretty much laid out the same way or do they vary? Any of you guys do any customization to them? If you have, what can you really change out, remove or add? Usually the ladies need the extra room and obviously the head/shower are all a big part of it for them.

Thanks in advance and sorry of the questions are annoying. I do appreciate it though.

We did a 31 with a much more open design. It was the RP hull. It has the v berth, enclosed head and small galley, but most of the length is used as the bridgedeck.

Let me know if you'd like to see any pics.

Good luck,

BTW, I looked and looked at the interior pics of that 36', and couldn't for the life of me figure out how they got all of that interior room in a 31' hull! I reread the post to figure out it was the 36'. Beautiful boat.

Yes, I would too. Please share any photo's you guys might have of your 31's interior. This is going to be big part of our decision.

Thanks much!

It's hard to beleive I don't have any interior shots of the boat. I'm sure I took them. Anyway, I'll be down there later this week and will take some.

Here is a pic of the floor plan and a shot of the boat to give you an idea of what I am talking about.

Boy that was a great recomendation. One of the greatest boats in that size range. It is a hard chine boat. Also consider a round bildge. One of the best all time hulls-32 Holland.

Good luck
