My brand new, just out of the molds, 38' Wesmac hull is for sale. An opportunity has come up for me to build a few 32' boats for Alaska, pushing back even further when I could begin work on this new 38 Wesmac, it would probably be 3-4 years before I could start on it. So this brand new 38 Wesmac hull is for sale, shrink wrapped ready for a new owner. It's located at Wesmac's boat shop, it was just pulled out of their shop and shrink wrapped on August 6, 2019. Price is $46,400. It's their standard 38' Hull, nothing extra or fancy. There are Stringers, no bulkheads, ready to finish. Call Brian at 816-365-9175. This is my hull, fully paid for, Wesmac does not own this hull. I just spoke with Steve, he said it would be at least a year before he could get another 38' hull out, they are really busy building boats. If you want a new 38 Wesmac hull, this one is ready to go right now. No waiting. Serious inquiries, thanks.

Man, how good would it look with a couple outboards! ;)o_O

Good luck with the sale- just daydreaming on how I could make it work as are all the other people looking at these pictures.

Thanks, Steve didn't think it would take very long to sell this hull. He says they are booked up building big boats, I hear (2) 60'ers are in the works for them to build. Their 50' stretched 10'.

Amazing the amount of $ going into these DE boats in huge sizes. I am blown away that the average fisherman is able to spend a few hundred k on a new boat but the business is obviously supporting/feeding itself. Congrats on your opportunity to build those boats in AK- you have earned it obviously with your skill and attention to detail.

It's also amazing how many boat shops are widening their existing boats and adding sheer height. In the near future I may be finishing a custom sized Downeast hull cut down to 32' length for fishing permit reasons, but going almost 15' wide, and raised sheer...exciting times.

So a safe bet would to expect to pay an additional $ 125k to buy and have a shop install the drive line from gauges to rudder and everything inbetween that would be needed to do a sea trial -? 500 hp something ?

Jonathon, hard to say the exact price to finish it bare bones without talking to a finisher about your expectations and specs. Yes, 500hp will push this boat very well, my last 38 Wesmac had a 500hp Deere and easily cruised 20-21 knots. My sea trial numbers are posted on this website

I went down this road a few years ago and I think it will cost more by the time you get there depending on finish. Basic lobster boat maybe but I think you may want a head and more of a house if I recall.

It is amazing to the average guy, who works hard just to be able to save enough to get a boat and make payments, and support the maintenance of it.
Consider this. I have a wealthy friend who had a million dollar boat custom built. The boat became a corporation, [LLC]. That made the boat Tax Deductible, with each year bringing a depreciation loss of Mucho Dinero ! The boat [business] posted a loss for every year allowed by the IRS.
Bottom line is that the boat was a steal because it was depreciated each year against the earnings, which were almost nothing. It is explained as a bad business investment. Hope I can do better next year.
Good accountants Rock !!! H&R block will Not get that done for you !
    Only my opinion.

I'd like to see a 38 Wesmac widened to 15 feet

Most accountants will tell you, this is the single biggest flag for the IRS. Boats that are used for pleasure, supposedly used as "bidness" will get scrutinized...

It’s been funny to watch that happen over the past 20 years. Even non-DE’s are getting more beam. We have been talking about when we redo our docks making them wider.

For those interested in sea trial numbers of my previous 38 Wesmac with 500hp Deere, here is the link. Top speed was 24.5 knots but I was over spinning the prop, the 24.5 knots was at only 88% load, could have easily added another inch or two of pitch and gained another knot or more on the top end.

I passed by your hull twice this weekend on my way to and from Ellsworth. It is a beautiful build! Who ever buys it will be happy they did!

At the risk of hijacking the thread and self serving I am going to throw this out there... I have a very clean very nice 525 hp John Deere/ lugger for sale. It is coming out of my boat next week for “need for speed” repower. 3000 hrs , excellent condition. Very durable engine and never pushed . I think it would go nicely with this hull. It is listed here under boat parts. Asking $25k complete package. What a nice bundle this would be! I am tempted...

Diesel, your old engine isn’t epa compliant for installation in a new boat.
