Have northstar chartplotter ( now company is gone)
Have Furuno charplotter.
Both operate fine, but love the newer BIG SCREEN view on newer units on market.
Kept looking at GARMIN as well as others. Pulled the trigger on 4212 last week. installed yesterday and cannot wait to get underway with this thing....love it so far. Tom:)

I currently use the 4210 and love it, g2 chip worth the money for contour charts and 3d, went with the non touchscreen because I didnt want finger prints all over the screen.

I also run a 4210 and love it. Not a huge fan of the garmin as a sounder, but as a plotter and radar the machine is great. Just be sure to stay up on the updates from garmin and your machine will always be as new as the current models.

purchsed mine online via e-bay store.local shops were almost $200.00 more. I usually support my small business guy, but could not look past that big of a difference....leaves more money for contour chip.
Keels....exactly why i went there also....did not want fish juice and saltwater covered fingers touching screen......Tomy;)
ps...did I mention BIG Screen for my old eyes....lol

You will love the Garmin plotter.
I've got 3 in my BHM (2010C & 182C in the house, 2006C up in the tower)
Garmin not highly thought for sounders & radar compared to Furuno and others but they rule for chart plotters !

Best thing about Garmins is they are user friendly compaired to some other units such as Raymarine (horrible). If I had to choose I would still get one of the newer Simrad units (which merged with Northstar I think)

Whale!!!! the old SIMRAD was split in two. The heavy duty stuff stayed with their European company (which they changed the name) The US part which was for smalltime users (us) was sold to the same company which makes "eagle" etc (freshwater boys). How do I know? bought boat and Simrad Sounder went south. tried to get some support! forget about it!
Bought new Furuno 1150 for $4500 and have not looked back....New Simrad is making big marketing upon that old good name....beware..Tomy:x
