This is in response to Mike G request on the General Discussion- Looking for DE 34 to 36. Nice NB Mike!! The 1977 Newman served as a year-round service boat for Central Maine Power in Casco Bay, Maine from 1977 to 2011. Farrin's Boatshop in Walpole, ME is converting this into a bass boat style with a convertible soft top for us. We will use it for a weekend cruiser. Here are some pictures before the work began. The entire hull has been soda blasted and the wash decks and pilot house removed. We are reverting back to wet exhaust. We hope to be ready for a June launch. Farrin's has been great to work with. The boat needed some refurbishing. The head was a drywall bucket without the seat!! I am new at posting and computer challenged. I hope this works ok.

Visited Farrin's Boat Shop this week some more progress

Farrin's is doing a great job and have been terrific to work with. Hull farring complete and sprayrail located with new Flag Blue hull color. All of the decks are coming out. The exhuast elbo is fitted and the muffler has arrived. Farrin's will be building new fuel tanks with deck fill under deck hatches. Side panels have been constructed. Cannot wait until launch day!!

I remember this boat…………September 1984 when I purchased my 1984 JC the harbor where I launched from in Ma. had this boat. Next I will find the 1984 pictures of this classic boat.

Looking at your project. Indeed you need to use the lightest material available to get the max performance out of your 200 JD. I see the dry stack is going so I assume the keel cooler is also going.

thanks capt. larry

Old photos are cool. I did not know the boat made it to or spent time in Mass. Good to learn more history. We are going to lighten it up as much as possible and Farrin's is directing us that way. I know this boat spent a lot of time in Casco Bay as it was the crew boat for Central Maine Power. That is how we got it. Farrin's took it in trade when they built a 38 Wesmac for Central Maine Power as a replacement to Hallelujah. We purchased it from Farrin's and they are doing the work. I am learning a lot here thank you all for your help and ideas. Please keep them coming.

wheel

I think I saw some in Hamilton Marine last fall. I think they had a couple of models some light weight and the heavier like the one on Hallelujah, they had a choice of finish too. I am going to polish this one up and refinish it. I hope my memory is correct. Good luck.

We visited Farrin's last week - Up-dated Pics

Good progress- 1st coat of primer is on the hull. New tanks and muffler in and framing for the decks complete. The template for the side panels gives an idea of what is to come. Cann't wait for launch day.

Steering system in, decks in, prop rebalanced and pitched. Last coat of primer should go on next week. The flag blue Awlgrip will follow soon. Clean-up work has started below. The orange formica in the galley is gone!! We have selected Nautex canvas for the convertable top and sunbrella fabric for the cushions. The new bronze ports have been ordered and electronics selection is starting. Hoping to be ready by mid June.
