Does anyone have any experience with one? I currently have a northstar 951 and am looking to upgrade. Im happy with my 951 but it is getting old. I thought about just buying another 951 but just saw a 962 for short money with everything included.

If you can find a 952 with everything included I'd jump on it. Same user interface as your 951, just nicer screen. Both of these models have been out of production for several years now.

I had one it was great, it stopes picking up a gps signal so I replaced it. I have a screen you can have if you do get one.

What sort of support is offered for the old Northstars now? I've got an old 951 on the boat that I had to get software updated in a few years ago b/c it couldn't pick up all the satellites or something like that. A consideration if buying an old 951 or 952 at least. Did that affect the 962?

As for Garmin, years ago I had to call them to "unlock" some chart software for a GPS we were using to record tracks on some research trips. Some of the worst customer service I've ever encountered. Brand new stuff and someone had lost the security codes and they treated me like I was trying to steal from them. I believe they also charge a fee for tech support or at least they used to.

There is no support,I've been running Northstars since '96 some had problems but at the price their isn't better gps,if it breaks through it away.

If you can't update the software then some of those old Northstars that have been on a shelf for a few years won't work all the time now. Mine would work for a while and then go out for hours b/c of the satellite situation before the update. Buyer beware. That's a shame; I liked those old machines except the touch pads would wear out after a while.

I think you want the xd color version,it's newer with the updates,the older black and white ones had those issues.

updates are easy to do and the info is on the northstar website, i had mine done last year with a friend of mine who's computer savy.

The one I was watching ended up selling, I had a tough time with the updates last year eventually had a guy here in town do it for me. The only customer support with the northstar's now is word of mouth. I just love how idiot proof they are... which I need.

You need to find the latest ones they made,the color ones are it.

Buy it it will be the best money you'll spend get the 6000i if you can in my eyes best chart plotter you can buy the 962 is like 951-52 with bigger skreen
