I would have a an ugly stick with 10lb test onboard just to piss them off and tell them thats my rod and reel..just curious about how they found out.. they already make it so god damn hard with all the rules and regs for commerical guys and the once in a blue moon scenario here should be a bonus, period.

this is the best part

"NOAA regulators do not share any of the proceeds from the fish's eventual sale with a fisherman found in violation of federal rules"

I've never really given this thought but since when is NOAA in the business of selling fish.
I assume for them to sell they need to have a vessel with a HMS permit ?

The media always mentions about the record tuna price to mislead the general public that we make so much on BFT. I eat at the chain restaurant here in HK that the high bidder is the principle owner and he and another in Japan together bid on the first fish of he new year with the intention of setting the big $$ record. Its common knowledge here that he does this as much for advertisement as luck and was the high bidder before this last record bid. Its cheaper than airtime advertisement and more publicity!;)

Sad, the guy didn't play his unloading strategy quite right or told too many people. That should have been a bonus for him.
