You can't go wrong with either of the first two mentioned.

Depends on the usage. I am a 38 Young Brothers fan.

The Flower 38 seems to be popular.

I don't think Perry Kuiper will build a kit Northern Bay 38 Bay anymore. I'm retired, Perry is taking over the company, he's only doing finished boats. There, you heard it first, haha. Also, why not the Holland 38? That's a beautiful boat.

It's a shame the 38 kit will no longer be available. Personaly I think it's a mistake, lots of great 38's out there you built that were finished by other people.

I thought Gary Kief had the molds and tooling? Is that arrangement over?

If speed and efficiency are at the top of your list you can't go wrong with an NB. They push very easy for their size and power.
Can't believe they would stop producing them. Looks like my asking price just went up. HA.

Funny you couldn't find boats that where more opposite. I wouldn't have the Lowell brothers built a dingy.

If you want fast, efficient and don't mind a little pounding when rough out go with a 38 Young Brothers. If you want a better ride go with less speed go with the other two.

Everything about the different named boats is a compromise, if the group knew how you intend to use the boat along with location, load it with creature comforts and speed and fuel requirements you might find that the group could give you a better answer. Just remember there is no one perfect boat.

Ok the boat will be used to fish the Northeast Canyons and finished with a higher end interior . The power would be a 500 hp cummings

In that case 38 Calvin Beal. It is a big 38. Depending on how much gear and "stuff" you put in you be in the ball park of 18 to 22 knots full speed.

Ok so speed is not a big factor, all the boats will perform well at 18 kts, some will be a little more fuel efficient than others but not enough to make a big difference. They are all good but you need to pick out the one that will work best for your intended layout. Some will offer much more interior volume than others and give you more flexibility inside. Just make sure you can get the 500 under the deck and you have enough head room in the cabin.

About the same as the Young Brothers in seaworthiness but not as fast.

Are you a 4/5 day guy or just 2 day trips? Looking for speed? Looking for a better ridding or a better drifting hull? Is 1:1 fuel efficiency good or are you an 8 knot guy trying to burn as little as possible?

Are there hull types you've been on and like?
