Hi, this post is for a friend. He has just got a evenrude outboard engine. And is having trouble figuring out how too wire it up too controlls. The outboard has 5 wires, and the controller have 8 wires. Can anyone suggest what too do, and how too wire as they both have completely different colored wires. 20210612_161858.jpg 20210613_161327.jpg

Depending on the model there will be extra wires if u have a pull start motor because the control box harness u have is used for both electric start and pull start motors.

Is that red amphenol plug in your last pic attached to the motor? I thought omc phased that out for Deutsche connectors in 1996.

Here is a wiring diagram for that amphenol plug ...

So the red plug end is too the ignition. The 5 wires are on outboard. I have the other end of the red plug, just wondering where I would put the outboard wires in the plug

Red to red, black to black. Power and ground, assuming noone modified them....you should be able to look at the wiring diagram and look at the motor and see where the wires go and no matter the color figure out what wire goes to what part on the motor..

This is what we are confused about, we are not too sure what colors go too where.obviosuly the ignition barrel has 8 wires and the outboard has 5, so what we are trying too figure out is when we wire the red plug to the outboard where each wire should plug into the other side. Because they are different colours

It appears that u have an ignition harness from a different year motor. This will present u with different color wires yet the wires even if colored differently will work. The only way to decide where the wires belong is to look at the wiring diagrams and trace your wires

If u buy a Seloc or Clymer manual they will have the wiring diagrams...or u can look online and most likely find what u need for wiring diagrams

So would the best bet be too get a different wiring harness too match the wires up?
