While it's a rarity, I can break down the cost of my stove insert. I use RARITY in caps because it was a special situation.

Found stove on Craigslist in the month of August a few years back. Person had bought the house with a never used stove and wanted it gone. He was asking $500 and needed to pick it up - walked away with it for $300 unused with extra fire bricks.

Chimney Liner - $4xx from Home Depot with Cap

Buddy installed liner and modified damper/firebox - $500

Total for Stove installed - $14xx and took 1 full day to complete.

Wood - $300/cord

There's a great Harmon dealer right here in my town Greg. "Home and Hearth" (603-926-2084) in case you want to give them a call and see what they have...i'd be happy to go look at something or even pick it up and store it for ya for a bit. Might help you skip sales tax....
I'm headed there this week to start shopping. Bought my woodstove there in 1994 and my Napoleon gas grill there two years ago. Good people.

Real nice family that owns it and the father used to chase tunas. If he's ever in the shop, he likes to chat about those days.

With the incentives available, it probably doesn't make sense to buy a used stove. 30% tax rebate brings the price down where for me, it is a sub-3yr payback. Now I just need to get 5 minutes with nothing to do and call the local stove shop so I can get moving. Want it installed by next winter.
Just make sure that the stove you purchase qualifies for the Federal Tax Credit. In order to qualify, pellet stoves must have at least a High Heating Value (HHV) Rating of 75% efficiency.

I had been looking at the Harmon XXV because I want something with the traditional aesthetic looks of a woodstove. Clicking through the Harmon website I found the XXV to have an HHV of 73% and does not qualify. I'm now looking toward the Absolute43 and Absolute63 both with an HHV of 77%.

I will give them a call. I tried the guys here in Maine, they aren't open today. I am on a plane to Dallas today, once I get there I will see what they can do.
I second Home and Hearth. That is where I do business. They are awesome to deal with, and they will even advise you about the tax incentives.
They have all the exhaust piping and everything there as well, a bunch of types of pellets...1 stop shop.
The stoves themselves come with all the details about setbacks and clearances. Super easy to install yourself.

This is one occasion that I always recommend to friends to pull a building permit and get it inspected. Just in case anything bad happens down the line you will have a paper trail of it being inspected for insurance purposes.

Although from my limited experiences in Maine with building departments, they don't seem to be anywhere near as strict as Massachusetts, so they might not even care at all?

This thread must have generated some interest, I called twice and they were busy both times!

Thanks guys, looking forward to seeing what I can put together.
