Yes, they are inspiring to see, and I'm lucky to be able to just about every day, but they also have a dark side. Never forget one day when I got a great backyard lesson in the ecology of Washington, DC.

Watched an osprey working hard to find some dinner. When it did it, and started to fly back to the nest, it was ambushed by an eagle who constantly hounded it until it dropped its alewife which the eagle grabbed. Hmmm, Osprey=Working Person, Eagle=Government looking for tax money.

You'd think that would be the end of the lesson, but it wasn't. As soon as the eagle landed on a stone, it was suddenly surrounded by herring gulls looking for scraps. My reaction was instant, "Holy crap, there are the lobbyists looking for their take!!"

Mother Nature is a great teacher...

The irony hits me that the Osprey (working man as a national bird), would that infer the mantra; Work hard, but remember you may occasionally drown and perish due to your exteme efforts???

No question the Bald Eagle is a natural wonder of creation. In Alaska they are very common and are seen in great numbers. When I would go to the city dump there would be hundreds of them getting in the garbage. I would think to myself, "they're nothing more then flying dogs !" When seen in that setting they just don't look so stately.

Continuing with our lesson in life: Not all corrupt politicians work in ideal surroundings. Some work the bowels of run-down cities to dig up their own lucrative deals.

The trailer bottomed out as it was dragged into the boat house parking lot as the driver couldn't make the swing into Yankee Marine. Out of state hauler with a Florida escort, so assume it came from RI. Just sat in traffic and watched.
