I am considering have a new boat build,a downeast
I am out of New Jersey and our typical run is about 80 miles out to the canyons
I would like to be able to have a fast enough boat maybe wot @28knts which as some guys claim
I hear alot of diff names as far as guys that finish them
Who's the best?
I was thinking maybe 31' to 38'
I just feel safer on a downeast boat
I was even looking at a 29' BHM seaworthy???
I am looking for an no frills offshore fishing vessel
Thanks for any input

Flowers Boatworks should top your list. He has a few models that could fit your needs and all ride very well.

25 Terry Jason with Cummins 370 power
Northern Bay 36. Has more than enough room to sleep 4 comfortably, good storage below deck in the cockpit and runs like a greyhound in any weather.

You just need a builder who knows how to put one together.

SISU powered ??? maybe the 410 ???

What would you run for gear and prop to make her run like a greyhound ??? :D

Tiny......
I have been hanging around boats with bigger power too long I guess.:)
It just seems small next to the 800 and 1000 HP. But just about right at the fuel dock.:D

He wants a canyon runner sportsfish. Not a bare bones lobster boat.
To get his speed requirements he will needs a MINIMUM of 600 HP with a 36 NB

38' Flowers, Wesmac, Lowell Brothers, or NB (no particular order) with a 620hp 9 liter Iveco. 2:1 reduction, 28" diameter prop, should hit 26-28 knots on the top if kept to a reasonable weight.

This new 38 Lowell Brothers hit 32-33 knots wot with an 800hp Man. This boat was much heavier than you would need, so I'm thinking with a 620hp Iveco, 28 knots would be very attainable.

Northern Bay 36 - Modified
Prop size on the boat ??

Classified

Probably a 28x34 or 36, nothing terribly hard to find

Easy build for the Northern Bay. I'm not convinced for the others.

I'm factoring in comfort too, doesn't matter how fast you can go on a mirror smooth day, it matters how fast you can go when you HAVE to.
