Now im a contractor and i hate when people question why my price is what it is, but im starting to wonder.
I dropped my prop off personaly at h&h salem ma despite my marina telling me they would take care of it. I had questions , and it worked out because I got a tour of a good old american machine shop.
After dropping my 23" nibral prop off for a ding repair , scanning , polishing , etc was told it would be the same price either way. What I mean is I could come pick it up and pay them , or they would deliver to my Marina and I could pay the Marina. Was told it would be the same either way.
Sucks not to trust your marina , the guys you shell out over 12G a year for dockage , storage, fuel, etc.
Does $900 sound even reasonable for a repair on one blade , scan, and polish. I know that this is an imposible question to answer without seeing the before picture , or knowing the work that was needed, but im just looking for a similar experience to make me feel better.

Bob, you asked an impossible question to answer.
When you say "dinged",,, what does "dinged" mean??
Could have a different meaning to you than a prop shop.

Accutech charges $80 for an annual "cleanup".
Much much more to reshape, repitch a "dinged" blade or two.

900$ for one prop.....??? No clue.

wasnt repitched one blade had a good ding. I know that means nothing. It was a good wack no doubt, but I just f'n hate my marina. They have me by the balls because I payed for winter storage. Should of hauled it a Roses. Note to self when your asshole starts telling you your gonna get fucked, just listen and go pick the prop up yourself.

I have always used accutech and have nothing but good things to say about them.. 900 seems high for a ding but if you knocked the blade all out wack and they fixed that, and rebalanced it seems to be about right. Maybe a little high..

Average recondition job here is $500 your marina most likely is tacking on 20% that's the norm.

Balance & polish $120
Recon fee $250

Your total $370

However tell us about this ding….. Was the blade cracked was metal missing? Did it require the welding in of a piece of nibral? If so that could add as much as an additional $400.00 to reshape and re-weld in a piece of nibral metal

No crack, a good fold 1" into tip of one blade. Im sure it needed some additional work, and if I didnt hate my marina I would of let it go. Just venting. sorry

1 FOLD INTO THE BLADE! OUCH. If the fold was more than 15 to 20 degrees the odds of bending that nibral back with cracking the metal is pretty hard. The process to remove that fold required some gentle heat then cooling over & over again so not to crack the nibral. You said ding so I am tacking on a additional fee. The wheel on the high side could hit that number. What size was the wheel & # of blades.

I relize fold , bend , ding, are all useless terms without a picture. cooling down now.
The wheel was 23" 25 pitch 4 blade nibral. bills paid and a few more rum and cokes and I will forget about it.

Main prob is I didnt pay with cash so the wife will see the charge on my debit. Just one more thing to through at me when she wants some new shoes or a purse.:-D

If it brings my rpms back after a full inspection this spring It will be easy to forget. I know I bumped a ledge trolling last season. Got a little scrape I have to adress on the keel, but one fishing trip will make the pain go away.

That's wht winters are for, wondering wtf do I do this for? Then you take that first ride in the spring and you forget all about the $ involved!

Got that right. Nothing better than that first ride in the spring to make you feel better about having a boat. Other than sitting out at Block and having a cold Mudslide while enjoying the view of your boat.;)

Bob !!!!!!! Jeezum !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Going forward consider a "ding" as a prop that has no visible signs of damage but started a vibration in the boat after you know you hit something;)

FWIW

I'm exaggerating the damage a bit. Didn't even know I touched the prop until boat was hauled. It was some where between a ding, bend , :D

I might be able to afford the new boat just not the shoes.

Sounds pretty steep. I usually get both props on the DMR tuned for half the money.
