I have had one on my boats for the past 10 years. Used them twice for ropes and once a month to check my shaft zinc.

Steve,

Curious???????

Have you had to use the prop clean out since you've owned the boat ?

Nope never needed it, i'm real careful when hauling gear but i can spin right around on the line when hauling and when running around the Sound i'm all ways looking for logs, sticks and big rafts of popweed. Even when i had the bowpicker with the outdrive i only got the net in the wheel one time in 20 years and that was at night when me and 150 other boats were jammed into a small bay by fish and game's stupid thinking, you can't have surface gillnets a boat width apart and expect to be able to move around much.

Hi;

That's a very informative set of pictures you posted - thanks!

It looks like a feasible project. (just finished putting in a Python CV drive,moving the engine forward 3", c/w thrust bulkhead and so on) My next step was cutting the shaft to length and being unhappy about line cutting options and installation alternatives.

My boat is LWL 29' with a 16" prop, 35 HP, 7 1/2 knots top speed.

Do you know if there is an increase water pressure at the bottom of the tube while running or backing that would force water up the pipe much higher than the waterline? Is it therefore watertight at the top?

Is it 6 inch? Is that enough to get some line removal tools down the hole?

Thanks
yes, water comes up mine all the time while backing. I have a heavy duty post in mine, and it comes around the post structure. If it wasn't there it would shoot up someone's skirt.

Yes they are very handy as opposed to going over the side at 03:00 and the water at 52 degrees. I have installed a few either 6 or 8" exhaust tube saves you some time. I have even put one in all the way through the deck, then capped it off with a 8" bronze hatch. Also best thing i have seen to clear pot warp/line is a tree pruning saw (Curved) bolted to an old hockey stick or fisherman's gaff.
hack saw blade works well also.
