Hi guys, I am in the process of buying a corp. NY food fish license. I need to know what safety equipment is required of me to carry on my boat. I have a 25 foot parker.

Also, will I need commercial insurance? How will commercial insurance effect the cost as compared to insurance for recreational use?

If you fish more than three miles out for federally regulated species such as Black Seabass, Fluke, Scup etc. you will be required to have more extensive safety gear. In addition you will need federal permits. Many permits, such as Scup, Fluke And Sea Bass are moratorium permits and are not available. And yes they have been checking for permits in federal waters. If you stay in state waters you only need gear that is required by N.Y State. If you fish more than three miles out you will need a Commercial Fishing Vessel Safety Inspection sticker.
