Hey guys so I got a great deal on 2 brand new shimanos 1 130 and 1 80 the only thing is the 80 is on a short stand up rod and I'm going to be fighting fish from the holders. I was just wondering if they made a rod for an 80 that's meant for fighting out of the holder or should I just get a 130 rod and put it on that?

Thanks
John

I would recommend using an 80 class rod. 80's on 130 rods never seem to look right or bend the rod right

i fished 80's for a few years and i would recommend against using an 80 for giants. can't put enough pressure on the fish, and doesn't hold enough line capacity. You can get spooled with them.

if you're going giant fishing, use 130's.

that being said, if you decide to use the 80, go with either an 80 class rod or a light 130. Like Duxbait said, don't use a broomstick.

Caught my first 2 giants on 80's on 130 star rods, then I had enough money to buy 2 more rods & 4 130's. We used to have the drags reworked to go up to 35#'s but those were penns. Anyway not ideal but it will work especially with braid, we only had dacron or mono back then.
